How to Identify Search Intent

  • Analyze the SERP - What types of results does Google show? This reveals what Google thinks users want.
  • Look at the top results - Are they blog posts, product pages, or tools? Match the format.
  • Check SERP features - Shopping ads suggest transactional; featured snippets suggest informational.
  • Consider the keyword modifiers - Words like "buy," "how to," "best" indicate intent.

  3. Ignoring mixed intent - Some queries have multiple valid intents
  4. Not updating for changing intent - Search intent can shift over time
